An evening with Liv Ullmann at Cinemateket
On Wednesday, April 8, Norwegian actor and director Liv Ullmann will visit Cinemateket at Filmhuset for a conversation with Jan Göransson, Head of Press at the Swedish Film Institute. Following the talk, there will be a screening of the acclaimed film Faithless (2000), directed by Liv Ullmann from a screenplay by Ingmar Bergman.
Date and time: Wednesday, April 8 at 6:00 PM (conversation), followed by a screening of Faithless at 7:00 PM.
Location: Filmhuset, Bio Victor, Borgvägen 1, Stockholm
Earlier this year Liv Ullmann received the honorary award, European Lifetime Achievement, at the 38th European Film Awards, recognising her extensive and multifaceted contribution to cinema. In 2015, she also received the Guldbagge Honorary Award for her outstanding impact on Swedish film history.
Liv Ullmann began her career in theatre before making her film debut in 1957. Her collaborations with Ingmar Bergman produced unforgettable classics such as Persona (1966), Oscar awarded Cries and Whispers (1972), and Scenes from a Marriage (1974). Her performance in Ingmar Bergman’s Face to Face (1976) earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, a distinction she had also been in contention for earlier with The Emigrants (1971), the opening instalment of Jan Troell’s adaptation of Vilhelm Moberg’s emigrant series.
As a director, Liv Ullmann has continued to bring Ingmar Bergman’s stories to the screen. Faithless is a psychological drama in which Erland Josephson plays an aging director named “Bergman”, who reflects on a love story from his past. The screenplay, written by Ingmar Bergman is believed to draw on elements of his own life and experiences.
Liv Ullmann’s visit is part of the Cinemateket spring program.
